Nannen Arboretum Society Inc. Trustee Meeting

Meeting Minutes, November 10, 2025 10:00 AM  

Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 10am.

A motion was made by Blair/ Gretchen to approve the minutes of October 14, 2025 meeting done by Diane. Carried

Review Meeting Agenda

Treasurer’s Report: A motion was made by Gretchen/ Blair to approve the financial report done by Laurie. Website domain was automatically renewed, Bradley Tree Service has not been paid yet, and there was $117 in the donation box. Carried

Presentations:  none

Committee/ Project Reports:

  •  Technology: None
  • Tree Mapping and Signage: Signs were secured by Mike and Blair. Still waiting for 10 more signs.  Signs are still need for the Dwarf Conifer Collection and Pollinator Area.
  • Tree Maintenance and Pruning Plan: Bradley’s did their job and there were many things to clean up. London Pine and oak stump chain were missed. Small items can be completed in the spring.
  • Ground and Infrastructure Maintenance: Clean up of the area around the bridge can be completed in the spring. The Town will be working on the pond feed and a path to the pollinator area.
  • Communication: Received an email from John Ploetz’s daughter. Draves and Plume Oak were trimmed
  • Volunteers:  Winter Connections to start in December, there will also be a meeting with the volunteers.
  • Education / Speakers:
    • Kathy Vidovich Herb Garden Horticulturist from Cornell Botanical could do virtual program in Dec or Jan. It’s a virtual tour of herb garden followed by plant interest and maintenance components. The tour is about an hour long. Will hold off till January.
    • Marcus Rosten from WNY Land Conservancy could perhaps be a speaker for Arbor Day and the program could be moved to the evening. His focus is saving land but a strong focus on animals. Do we need a speaker or should we just do a tree planting ceremony?
  • Community Relations / Programs:
    • Wreath making classes will be held on December 4th and 9th
    • 15 people pre calls and there are already signups. Diane and Gretchen will help with the class.
  • Silent book club: Nan contacted 2 clubs and they are interested.
  • Memorial Program:
  • Ellicottville Town: Budget discussion being done to include a path to pollinator area. Steve is working on the arboretums annual report for the Town.
  •  Field Trips: Nothing new
  • Tree Wish List: Nothing New

Unfinished Business:

  • Dwarf Conifer Collection: Adding 3 new in the spring.
  •  Pollinator Garden Area / any add planters: No new plants are needed.  Maybe put pavers or millings by shed when they do the path to the pollinator area.
  • Dogwood Collection: Could use this space for small bush planting and not just dogwood
  • Message Board / winter idea: Leave empty for winter or attach arboretum flyer.
  • Group B Tourism: Work with Registegraphics in Randolph for a new purple flyer. Maybe use some of the pictures from the kids thank you cards, add a Plantsoon QR code, pictures of the new fountain, dwarf garden and education opportunities. Contact county about Rack Cards.
  • Al Cox Garden: Steve planted some new bulbs, Dirt in this area is bad. Railroad ties are also getting bad, maybe replace with treated lumber.
  • Herb Garden: Nothing new

New Business:

  • Pond: Whispering Pines Fish Farm can supply grass carp for $21.00 each. They will contact Steve in February. Should only need 3 or 4  for a pond this size.
  • Al Cox Garden: Discussed above.
  • Policy: Steve is working on updating the policy, bylaws, and purchasing decision making.
