Nannen Arboretum Society Inc Trustee Meeting, Monday, December 8, 2025
Call to Order at 10am by Steve.
Review and Approve Minutes of November 10, 2025 Meeting. A motion was made b y Diane/ Blair to approve the minutes of the November 10th meeting.
Review Meeting Agenda
Treasurer’s Report: A motion was made by Ed / Gretchen to approve the treasurer report presented by Laurie.
There was a discussion about transferring some funds.
Presentation: None
Committee / Project Reports:
- Technology: None
- Tree Mapping and Signage: More signs to be done. Can wait till spring.
- Tree Maintenance and Pruning Plan: Oak stump still needs to be removed.
- Ground and Infrastructure Plan: Town will trim the Hawthorn trees on the roadside. Arboretum should be involved in the trimming. Steve will contact the town.
- Communication: There were donations done through PayPal. Thank You notes should be sent to the doners.
- Volunteers: Winter Connections: Volunteers were invited for Coffee and muffins before meeting.
- Education/Speakers: Kathy Vidovich can do a virtual presentation on Herb Garden Horticulturist. Steve will set up a March date for the presentation. The public will be invited. Arbor day speaker still to be determined. The Ellicottville Alley Cats will be invited. Possibly get Marcus Rosten of the Western New York Land Conservancy.
- Community Relations/Programs:
- Wreath making Dec 3rd and 4th went very well and brought in $435.00.
- Silent book club: Steve would like to get a committee set up to get the club started. People would read their own books in the arboretum then socialize after.
- Memorial Program: Nothing New
- Ellicottville Town:2025 letter to Town Board with 2025 summary, and about trimming of Hawthorne Trees roadside
- Field Trips: Nothing new
- Tree Wish List: Will table till next month. Need suggestions for trees or shrubs. Annett Church will be contacted for suggestions
Unfinished Business:
- Dwarf Conifer Collection: 3 new ones for 2026.
- Pollinator Garden Area: find out where path will be put.
- Dogwood Collection: Nothing new.
- Message Board: Will remain empty for the winter Paul volunteered to build a display board to put the map of the arboretum and display pictures of the arboretum during different seasons.
- Group B Tourism: Grant application was completed by Steve. Grant will pay for 50% of printing.
- Arboretum flyer needs to be reviewed and revised
- Al Cox Garden: Railroad ties need to be replaced. Possible put in a sprinkler system. Needs better dirt. Old plants need to be thinned out. Smaller perennials are needed.
- Herb Garden: Nothing new.
- Pond: Carp will be purchased in the spring. Bridge area will also be cleaned up in the spring.
New Business: None
Policy: Needs to be reviewed. Conflict of Interest policy needed. Also Whistleblower, record retention and destruction, gifts, and fiscal management to include banking procedures, signatures and investments
